Jeremy Gardiner: Unfolding Landscape – Drawing and Painting the Geometry of the Coast
Professor Jeremy Gardiner is Director of Postgraduate Studies at Ravensbourne in London and former Harkness Fellow of the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His work is informed by science, geomorphology, new technologies and direct physical engagement with ancient landscapes. His paintings and prints are about spirit and sense of place, particular landscapes, their contours and unique history. Gardiner will discuss the hybrid techniques he uses to combine painting, drawing, satellite data, immersive virtual reality and additive and subtractive fabrication in the production of his work. His current exhibition ‘Drawn to the Coast’ is at the Paisnel Gallery, 9, Bury Street, St James’s, London until 20th October.

Anita Taylor : Drawing, the Body: Interrogating Appearances
Professor Anita Taylor [b.1961 UK] studied at Mid- Cheshire College of Art [Foundation in Art and Design], Gloucestershire College of Art & Technology [BA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting (First Class)], and Royal College of Art, London [MA Painting]. She was Artist-in-Residence at Durham Cathedral [1987-88]; Cheltenham Fellow in Painting [1988-89]; and Artist-in-Residence with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service with the National Art School Sydney [2004]. Recent solo exhibitions include: The Customs House, South Shields [2017]; Drawing Projects UK [2016-17]; William Wright Artists Projects [Sydney 2014]; The Drawing Room [Sydney 2011]; Peter Pinson Gallery [Sydney 2009]; The Drawing Gallery [Shropshire 2009; London 2004]. Her drawings have recently been included in exhibitions at Jerwood Gallery [Hastings 2016, 2014]; The Global Centre for Drawing, Langford120 [Melbourne 2013, 2011]; Victoria & Albert Museum [2009]; and Tate Britain [2006]. She was awarded the Malvern Award for Drawing 1993; Drawing Award, Hunting Art Prizes 1999; and First Prize, Hunting Art Prizes 2000. Works are included in a number of collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum and Jerwood Foundation.
She is currently Executive Dean of Bath School of Art and Design at Bath Spa University. Prior to this appointment, she was Director & Chief Executive Officer of the National Art School in Sydney, Australia [2009-2013]; Dean of Wimbledon College of Art and Director of The Centre for Drawing, University of the Arts London [2006-2009]; and Vice Principal of Wimbledon School of Art, London as an independent Higher Education Institution [2004-2006]. She is founding Director of the Jerwood Drawing Prize [1994-present] and Drawing Projects UK [2009]. She is also currently the Chair of the UK Council for Higher Education in Art & Design, a Trustee of Stroud Valley Arts, President of Wells Art Contemporary, and a Strategic Reviewer for the Arts & Humanities Research Council.
